Navy, Marine Corps, & Coast Guard
The US Navy, Coast Guard, and Marine Corps (USMC) served a wide variety of roles in WWII. The Navy and Coast Guard not only provided transport of personnel and equipment, but patrolled hostile waters, provided gunnery, guarded coasts, launched airplanes and troops for invasions, battled enemy fleets, and operated in every ocean and theater of operations. Marines famously fought as island-hopping invasion troops throughout the Pacific, but also operated in small numbers in Europe, as airborne (Paramarine), and as raiding forces.
