Civil War Uniforms, Headwear, & Footwear

Original example of a Union Civil War officer's frock coat. This rare uniform retains all nine regulation uniform buttons and, while stained, is complete. Officer's were responsible for purchasing their own uniforms, and CW-era frock coats could be distinguished from later patterns by an un-hemmed skirt and widened elbows. It contains a breast pocket, quilted interior, and two pockets at the rear.

Civil War Veterans

The years after the Civil War saw the establishment of veteran organizations across the country.  The Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) led the way with hundreds of chapters and nearly a half a million members by the late 1800s.  Other fraternal groups also were chartered in the years following, ranging from Sons of Union Veterans, Women's Relief Organization, United Spanish War Veterans, American Legion, and many more.
